Flat rate tax for an Australian employee

Create a tax variation to change the employee to a different tax percentage to specify a tax rate.

Updated over 3 weeks ago

In instances where a flat rate of tax is to be withheld by the Payer, a tax table can be set up to accommodate this requirement. For example, Australian Payers may receive a PAYG Variation to the Withholding Notice.

To accommodate this, a flat rate tax table may need to be set up and relevant employees linked to it.

Set up a tax variation for Australia

  1. Go to Access WageEasy, Setup, Tax, Tables.

  2. Click Add, enter a relevant Description for the new tax table, for ATO Defined (Downwards Variation), the user defined tax table setup description needs to start with ATO Defined, for e.g. ATO Defined Flat Rate 15%.

  3. Weekly Tax Free Amount: 0.00.

  4. Do not tick any boxes.

  5. In the Weekly Earnings (x) Less Than $ column, enter 999999999 (nine 9s), in column a 0.15, and nothing in column b. The value in column a is the % of the flat rate tax table, as shown below.

Link the flat tax table to an employee

  1. Go to Employee, Payments, Tax, Tax Table.

  2. Select the drop-down and find the new tax rate you created.
