How to Submit an STP Update for a Single Employee and Manage Subsequent Updates

When using Access WageEasy for STP reporting, you may need to submit updates for a single employee or manage updates for employees already submitted. Below is a step-by-step guide to help you navigate these scenarios.

Submitting an STP Update for a Single Employee

To submit an STP Update for a single employee:

  1. Open the STP2, Select STP Update section in Access WageEasy.

  2. At the top of the STP Update Filters "Include" list, untick the checkbox labeled All employees to deselect everyone.

  3. Select the specific employee you want to include in the update.

  4. If applicable, mark the employee as Final Pay. (Read below)

  5. Complete the declaration and submit the update to the ATO.

Marking an Employee as Final Pay

When submitting an STP Update for a single employee, you may need to mark them as Final Pay. This step is only done if the employee is leaving or their payments for the financial year are complete. To do this:

  1. Select the employee in the STP Update.

  2. Mark them as Final Pay.

  3. Proceed with the submission and complete the declaration.

Managing Already-Submitted Employees in Subsequent Updates

If you have already submitted an STP Update for a single employee and later need to run an update for all employees, you can handle this in two ways:

  • Include the Employee Again: Including the already-submitted employee will not cause any issues. The ATO will treat this as a "find-and-replace" update, ensuring the latest information is recorded.

  • Deselect the Employee: To keep your records clean, you can untick the checkbox for the employee you’ve already submitted before running the all-employees update.

Best Practices

  • Always double-check the "Include" list to ensure only the intended employees are selected.

  • Use the Final Pay option judiciously to avoid errors in reporting.

  • Keep a record of submitted updates for reference and troubleshooting.

By following these steps and best practices, you can efficiently manage STP Updates for single employees and ensure compliance with ATO requirements.
