Reinstall or migrate WageEasy to a new machine

Updated over 3 weeks ago

There are several considerations and components involved.

Components:

  1. Software Application.

  2. Database (Company File) location.

Go to the software downloads site where you can download either Standard or the NoAdmin* Release of the WageEasy software application. The Upgrade installers are Full Version installers that can be used to install the application on a new PC or an upgraded PC that requires reinstallation:

The users running the WageEasy application will need full read write privileges to the location of the WageEasy company files in order to open the WageEasy company file\s (database extension is *.wed).
*NoAdmin release is recommended where the local user does not have local administrator rights in Windows. This is quite common now with Windows 10 in a business environment, or if the application is installed on a terminal server.

Instructions on installing the application:

  1. Please download the WageEasy software from the software downloads site.

  2. After you have downloaded the zip file, but before extracting the contents of the zip file, please click on the zip, go to properties, unblock, then apply.

  3. Extract the contents of the zip and run the setup.exe as Administrator, and follow the wizard to install the software. (If upgrading, please ensure WageEasy is closed on any machine accessing the company file before running the upgrade step.)

  4. The first time you open WageEasy, Run As Administrator. If using the NoAdmin release, you only have to do this once.

After installing the application, the desired workstation or server, please open the application and go to File, Open Company, and browse to the location of your WageEasy company file to open it (the live database is the file extension *.wed). If you are prompted to upgrade, please ensure all users are out of the database and that you have taken a current backup of the WageEasy company file (database, which is a .wed, and backup is .web) prior to clicking upgrade.

Other considerations:

Choosing a New Backup Location - You may also have some WageEasy backup files, which might be, by default, saving to the app roaming folder if the user taking the backup does not change the location. They should create a location for backups and save them to this location instead of the app roaming folder. Backup files have the file extension (*.web), which you can also find in Windows File Explorer and move over.

If you have the latest backup (.web file) and do not have access to the .wed file, the restore process for a backup file can be a little tricky. Please check our Knowledgebase or contact the help desk for further instructions on restoring from a backup file.

User-defined Reports and Queries – Please check the current location of the User-defined Reports and Queries via File, Company Details, Configuration, File Locations. There are two folder paths, one for reports and one for queries. Please ensure you take a copy of the folders, and if necessary, migrate them to the new application server\host PC if required. (A small suite of user-defined reports and queries will install with any new installation of WageEasy, however, the customer may have some additional user-defined reports and queries that will only be available from their current (old server location).
