Diagnostic Error: 'Employee record file locked for editing'

Unable to access Employee record, employee is locked.

When accessing an employee record in WageEasy and the error message 'Employee record file is locked for editing' appears, it means that the connection to the server was lost, and the employee record is now locked. Additionally, employee records may also appear as inaccessible or unavailable for payroll processing. Compacting the database will solve this issue.

Prerequisites

  • Ensure all users have exited the affected database.

  • Always create a backup of your database before proceeding to avoid data loss.

  1. Close the error message and the screen you are currently working on, and check all other users have exited the database.

  2. Click on File, Maintenance, Database Maintenance.

  3. You can say Yes to do the backup and save it to your backup location.

  4. Once the backup is complete, click OK and this will bring up the Database Maintenance Wizard.

  5. In the Database Maintenance Wizard, click Next, then click Next again to confirm the default (current) database selection.

  6. Tick the option Compact Database and click Next.

  7. Wait for the compacting process to complete, then click Finish.

  8. Log back into WageEasy and return to the Wages or Payroll section. The previously locked or inaccessible employee record should now be available for selection and processing.

Additional Tips

  • If the issue persists after compacting the database, ensure that no other users are accessing the database and repeat the process.

  • Regularly maintain your database to prevent similar issues in the future.
