Award shift loadings are calculated at a higher rate

The hourly rate used for Shift Loadings on the payslip appears to be incorrect.

Updated over 3 weeks ago

If you have selected the Rounded up to Next Whole Hour option under loadings, shift loading, Payment Conditions within the Award, this option will create an end result where the hours worked will be rounded up to the next hour prior to calculating the loading rate to be used within the timesheet.

To check the settings:

  1. Go to Setup.

  2. Click Awards.

  3. Select the Award you want to look at and double click or edit.

  4. Click Loadings.

  5. Select the applicable Loading.

  6. You will see Shift rules are listed in the top box.

  7. In the Payment Conditions box, you will find Rounded up to next whole hour ticked.

  8. On the Payslip, WageEasy will manipulate the loading rate to be applied against the hours worked to arrive at a total Loading amount, whilst rounding up to the next whole hour, if applicable.

Screenshot of the Award Condition

Scenario: The employee worked 4.50 hours from 18.00 to 23:30 (4 hours and 30 minutes). If you have ticked the above condition within the award Wageeasy will round the hours up to the next whole hour, multiply the shift penalty by 5 hours, then divide this total by the number of actual hours worked 4.50 ( 4 hours and 30 minutes ) to return an average rate, this is the rate that will be displayed on the payslip.

  • 5 hours multiplied by 2.31 = 11.55 / 4.50 = 2.5667 per hour
